•Figure out as early as possible the length of your probation period. Set the end date as your first major milestone and model everything you do from the first day till the last day with the goal of getting confirmed without any doubt
•As a new hire, you will be given specific instructions and limits on what to do, since a new hire can be a liability under certain circumstances. Though it is natural to be a bit apprehensive, put your best foot forward and heed the instructions to the letter. Do not overstep any limits put in place and do not assume anything unless explicitly told. When in doubt, seek clarification. Many new hires are reluctant to seek clarification as they may be perceived as troublesome, but damaging a piece of work by doing incorrectly will be infinitely worse and set you off on the wrong foot altogether
•Some organisations are strong at defining roles and setting tasks, some are not. As a new hire, you may not know what you are walking into. You have to apply your common sense to try and understand the role you are working towards. Understand that when you start, you may not have a clear role, but you will have tasks on hand. Put these tasks together in perspective and you will start to see a visualisation of your role. Once you have established your role internally, move forward by adding value to the organisation via your role
